Recognizing that God is our Creator and therefore the Ultimate Artist, the visual art department of Summit Christian Academy strives to honor God in our study and production of art work. We approach the study of art with a belief that every child has a God-given ability to appreciate beauty in his world and that each child has an inner drive to express himself creatively. For those who have a God-given talent toward visual arts, we intend to foster a love of art and skill in basic art tools and techniques. For those who may be more talented in other areas of expression, we intend to give the opportunity to explore and attempt creativity in a nurturing environment. As Pablo Picasso said, “All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

Summit Christian Academy’s art program incorporates the Oklahoma PASS objectives into our art curriculum at all grade levels. At the elementary level, these objectives are taught in combination with current themes and units being presented by classroom teachers in the core subjects. Middle school students are given a nine-week general overview of basic drawing and shading techniques as well as the opportunity to create a few handmade projects of interest. At the high school level, Summit art students explore a wide variety of visual art styles, mediums, and techniques, including some of the historical and cultural influences of art. It is our intention to train the whole child to recognize, appreciate, and create works of art that glorify God through their process and message at Summit Christian Academy.
